The British 6th Airborne Division had the task to secure the bridge near Ranville in the British SWORD sector in order for the other divisions to clear a path. They landed near the bridge in 6 Horsa gliders and after a battle they occupied this bridge. This bridge was renamed 'Pegasus'-bridge to honor these British paratroopers - who wore a Pegasus as their divisional insignia.

The original bridge can be visited in the museum.
