Pottery/stoneware shards potsherds
Eye sighted findings are common during metal detecting trips. Most of these are pieces of (clay)smoke pipes and pottery shards. Sometimes it’s even possible to find an old coin laying on the surface!
Smoke pipe & Pottery shards can be a good indication to the age of the field and which items are likely to be found.
Personally I do not have much expertise about pottery shards.
The only differences I can distinguish are pottery, stoneware (Westerwald, Raren) and porcelain - in which i most likely make mistakes in determination...
Nevertheless I find this a very interesting theme and therefore I collect these shards and register where I found them. These are some of my shard findings:
